Sequoyah State Park, on the lake, and Sequoyah Bay State Park, on the Verdigris River, offer nearby recreation.
Area attractions include Fort Gibson Military Park, Fort Gibson Dam, and the Fort Gibson National Cemetery which holds the graves of veterans from every war since the War of 1812.
The fort was the first constructed in the Oklahoma territory in 1824 and served as home for the 7th Cavalry.
