Muskogee County

Muskogee county is located in eastern Oklahoma with the town of Muskogee serving as the county seat.

The county is bounded on the north by the Arkansas River (separating it from Wagoner County)and on the southeast by the Canadian River, flowing in between the county and Haskell County. Other than the smaller Red River and lower Arkansas drainage areas, all the water in Oklahoma passes through some part of Muskogee county.

Among the nearly 40 "Historic Places" is the Cherokee National Cemetery just east of Fort Gibson. Other sites of interest include Ft. Gibson within the town of Fort Gibson and Ft. Davis near Muskogee.

The county population on July 1, 1999, was 70,091, an increase of 2,013 over the 1990 census.
