McIntosh County

McIntosh county is located in eastern Oklahoma with Eufaula serving as the county seat.

The county has a good percentage of its acreage in the form of water--specifically, about half of Eufaula Lake, the state's largest. Of the two state parks on the lake, Lake Eufala State Park is located here. Arrowhead State Park is located in Pittsburg County.

Among the historic sites in the county is the Honey Springs Battlefield north of Rentiesville near the Muskogee County line. The site dates to Civil War times and was the first battle where troops on both sides included Native Americans, African Americans, and European Americans. Other sites in the county include the Slippery Moss Shelter near Texanna and the McIntosh County Courthouse in Eufaula.

The county population on July 1, 1999, was 19,269, an increase of 2,490 over the 1990 census.
