Boone Hall |
Dating to 1681, Boone Hall survived the war and is the country's finest examples of antebellum plantation life. Today it has about 140 acres in cultivation. Remnants of the antebellum plantation stand today in the old gin house, the smokehouse and the "Slave Street." The "Slave Street" is a series of brick slave quarters near the main house, in which the house servants lived. Here slaves raised cotton while Major John Boone fought for the privileges and equality sought by the settlers. Successive owners followed his example, using the land to support their individual lifestyles. Tours of Boone Hall span the centuries and tell the stories of the planters and African Americans who lived and worked here.
Boone Hall is open all year except Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.
