A barrier island roughly halfway between Charleston and Beaufort, South Carolina, the island was purchased from the Edistow Indians by the Lords Proprietors in 1674 in consideration of "Valuable Cloth, Hatchettes, Brads and other Goods and Manufactures." The Edisto Island Museum is the Society's home.
