Eklutna Alaska

Eklutna is located between Anchorage and Palmer along Highway 1 at the head of the Knik Arm of Cook Inlet at the mouth of the Eklutna River.

Dating back to 1650, Eklutna is the oldest continually inhabited Athabascan site in the Anchorage area. It is located at the junction of several traditional Native American trails. Today's residents are descendants of the Tanaina tribe.

Russian Orthodox missionaries arrived in the 1840s. Brightly-colored "spirit houses" in the Russian Slavic style can be viewed in Eklutna, as well as one of the oldest Russian Orthodox Churches in North America - St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church.
