Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve |
This 3,328,000 acre park and preserve is bounded on both sides by the Tongass National Forest, with the Gulf of Alaska to the south and Canada to the north. It includes tidewater glaciers flowing from the icy peaks of the Fairweather Range to the inlets.
The preserve also includes Mt Fairweather, the highest peak in southeastern Alaska at 15,320 feet. Glacier Bay is 60 miles long and dotted with icebergs from calving glaciers. The area is famous for sportfishing and whalewatching.
The only road is a 10 mile stretch between the Bartlett Cove Ranger Station and Gustavus. The park is most easily seen from a boat. For information and boating regulations, contact the National Parks & Monuments
