Alaska Marine Highway |
The Alaska Marine Highway comprises three systems. One is the Southeast system, which originates in Bellingham, Wash. and Prince Rupert B.C., and follows the Inside Passage to Haines and Skagway.
The Cross-Gulf System links all regions of the state, providing transportation from Juneau to Yakutat, Valdez, and Seward. Sailing will be available nearly every month throughout the fall, winter and spring of 2002-2003 and twice monthly from May through August of 2003. The Southcentral/Southwest system serves coastal communities from Prince William Sound to the Aleutian Islands. Southcentral communities also accessible by highway are Valdez, Seward and Homer.
Accessible only by ferry are Cordova, Seldovia and Kodiak, plus the Aleutian Island communities of Chignik, Sand Point, King Cove, Cold Bay and Unalaska/Dutch Harbor. Reservations are required for all sailings.
