Stevens Point is located in
Portage County (of which it is the county seat) within the
Central Region, between
Wausau and
Portage along I-39 on the banks of the Wisconsin River near
Wisconsin Rapids,
Plover, Big Eau Pleine Reservoir, and Lake du Bay.
The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 22,196, a decrease of 806 since 1990.
