Ashland county is located in north central Ohio and calls Ashland, home of Ashland College, its county seat. The county population on July 1, 1999, was 51,973, an increase of 4,466 over the 1990 census.
Currently there are 15 sites listed in the National Register of Historic Places including the Ashland County Courthouse on W. 2nd; the Philip J. Black House on N. Water St. in Loudonville; the Crittenden Farm near Savannah; the Hayesville Opera House and Sprott's Hill Mounds Site near Ashland.
