City Map with Features
Originally called 'The Corn Belt Exposition' when it was established in 1892, the idea for the building was to showcase the region's agricultural bounty and to entice more farmers to the area. The present structure is the third Palace, completed in 1921, featuring Moorish-style architecture, with minarets and kiosks. Portions of the exterior and interior are covered with designs made from ears of corn. The exterior decorations are completely changed each year, with artist-designed murals which require thousands of bushels of grains to complete; redecorating the building has become an annual event. The Corn Palace serves as a community multi-use center, hosting stage shows and sports events in the facility's arena. Free tours are offered during summer hours. Open year-round, admission is free to the public.
