Medicine Bow National Forest |
Located in SE Wyoming, this large and magnificent forest encompasses three mountain ranges in its boundaries: the Medicine Bow Mountains, Sierra Madre, and the Laramie Mountains. The forest offers year-round recreational opportunities for people and provides timber, water and forage for livestock and wildlife. The topography varies greatly due to the large amount of land, 1,093,618 acres, it encompasses; however, many geographical regions are covered. The forest ranges from semi-arid climates in the low levels to cold in the mountains and high country. There are four wilderness areas within the forest, Savage Run, the Platte River, Huston Park Wilderness and Encampment River Wilderness. The forest administers to Thunder Basin National Grassland in NE Wyoming in the Powder River Basin, the Big Horn Mountains, and the Black Hills National Forest.
Camping is available from June to September, and activities include boating, 4-wheeling, hiking, and fishing. Vedauwoo is popular for rock climbing. Located in Carbon County.
