Portland Metropolitan Area

At the center of Oregon's largest metropolitan area, Portland can be both cosmopolitan and intimate. Within view and easy driving distance of Mount Hood, split by the Willamette and close to the Columbia, Portland is closely tied to its natural setting.

At the same time, as the hub of commerce and a center of culture and education, Portland hums with activity. Most of the major cultural institutions of Oregon call Portland home--the opera, symphony, and many museums standing out.

Still, by both design and luck, Portland has retained an intimate feel with its tightly knit communities and intimate districts. The web of supporting communities adds variety and complements the city's strengths.
